Colorado Recognized as Spider Capital

It’s Official!

(Ouray) Here in the Centennial State we may not have fleas, or poisonous snakes or chiggers or vampire bats but we damn sure have spiders. In fact we have more of the arachnids than any other state in the whole country.

Yesterday that distinction was brought home with accolades and honors from naturalists, entomologists, silk producers and arthropod activists, who seek to protect spiders due to their capacity for killing harmful insects.

Today Governor John Hickenlooper is expected to receive formal confirmation as to the laurels.

“It’s a proud day for all Coloradans,” said Hickenlooper in a prepared statement. “And all this time I thought we were special for our mountains.”
